In an intriguing process placing LED lights on bows sliding across stringed instruments, photographer Stephen Orlando tries to convey the movement of sound. In this way, he’s able to create a visual metaphor for the songs being played. He achieved this feat by taking long exposure photos while musicians played their instruments with bows lit by LED lights. The color of the lights would change to create a sense of the passage of time. He said he found it easier to move the camera rather than the performer in order to create trails that go left to right or top to bottom.
Orlando says of his work, “I’m fascinated with capturing motion through time and space into a single photograph. Using LED lights with custom color patterns and long exposure photography, I’m able to tell the story of movement.” [h/t thisiscolossal.com]
