Illustrator Pat Vale takes a spectacular view of New York City

One of the most iconic cities in the world, New York is renowned for its architecture – and English artist Patrick Vale has found a stunning way to capture it. Vale, who has previously illustrated San Francisco and London, braved temperatures of -15 degrees to take in the view for his picture, making sketches and taking photos before returning to his studio to create the piece.

A time-lapse video of his process, captured by Vale himself, brings to light the sheer scale of his work. Filmed from an overhead viewpoint, Vale’s New York unfolds across the paper – layer upon layer of buildings springing to life. The finished piece is a real homage to the city; a labor of love and a celebration of its magnificent skyline. [h/t dailymail.co.uk]
