I’m Ilaria Ortensi, an Italian artist based in New York, who explores the relationship between photography and sculpture while exploring ideas related to contemporary architecture. Residential urban sites, abandoned places and virtual spaces were among the sources of inspiration of some of my most recent works. My process combines an experimental approach with different media and strategies to create staged photographs. The results are images that often deal with scale and forms, sometimes deconstructing an existing architecture to elaborate original shapes into a new sculpture or to create alternative spaces. Looking at these empty and ephemeral constructions one could think of modern ruins, fragmented spaces that emanates from the desolation of our urban landscape.
