The kinetic sculptures of Tobias Layman

Tobias Layman has been creating art since 2007. He began his career making ceramic vessels, applying various texture and surface treatment. He eventually became fascinated with the world of kinetic sculpture and now focuses predominantly on that medium. The movements and actions of his work generate excitement and awe. The tremendous output of sound and the inefficiency of the hand-cut, wooden gears elicit a sympathetic response. Tobias continues to explore how machines and kinetics can produce emotive and nostalgic feelings. He is currently seeking an MFA from the University of Alabama, and lives with his wife and overly talkative cat.
