In an ambitious city-wide art project, an entire hillside of houses was painted over in a vibrant mural in the Palmitas district in Pachuca, Mexico. The Mexican government collaborated with a local youth organization called German Crew to paint a 20,000 square meter mural across the facades of 209 homes.
In addition to beautifying the neighborhood, the project became a tool for urban renewal. Jobs were created to complete the project while crime drastically reduced. Plus, the community got directly involved in the effort as German Crew got to meet the residents through workshops and consulted with them on what colors they’d like on their houses. It not only created a striking piece of urban artwork but also transformed the community and created a whole new energy to the local area. [h/t mymodernmet.com]
