Australian street artist, Meggs, came to the Bay Area recently to create two new pieces of work especially designed for the cities here. First, he went to San Francisco’s Northbeach district to create a dramatic mural depicting a swallow. Located on 1 Rowland St., the swallow is a reference to both tattoo culture and the motifs that inspire his work. Sailor tattoos would use the swallow to represent safe passage and time at sea. It’s an homage to that culture and to his fond memories of San Francisco, which he calls his home away from home.
The second wall in Oakland depicts a split image of a woman and a wolf with the words ‘Roots Run Deep’. This one is located at Jack London Square at 696 3rd St. The wolf references the famous writer Jack London and the phrase is a celebration of Oakland’s history and civic pride. [h/t news.1xrun.com]
