British artist Richart Stainthorp uses metal wire to create powerful and captivating human figures. And to their realistic forms, he adds a touch of the surreal, giving them wings or horns, thereby elevating them from the world of the everyday into the truly divine. While Stainthorp does not usually give them faces, he uses the wiring to focus on following the lines of the muscles and contours of his figures. The effect is one of great expression even if no emotion is conveyed overtly.
Stainthorp is based in the United Kingdom and has been making wire sculptures since 1996. According to the artist, Stainthorp invented this form of wire sculpting while studying fine art and never looked back. More of his works can be found here. [h/t weezbo.com]
