My name is Renzo Razzetto and I create pen-and-ink collage style illustrations. There is no planning when it comes to designing my pieces. Everything is done spontaneously, only relying on intuition. Working in this manner allows me to remain inspired and my work soon becomes a collection of subconscious ideas, images and emotions that are capable of transforming our perception of reality. This also gives the viewer the complete freedom to interpret the piece in any way they like.
I’ve always been fascinated with silent cinema, specially German Expressionism. This style of cinema was very visual and has very much influenced my work because of its symbolic, dreamlike scenarios. And that is how I like to approach my illustrations as well, as dreams. Keeping everything a mystery from myself, not knowing what might end up on the page is something that I find really exciting.
And then we come to the inking. Stippling is the technique I use to ink my illustrations. It is a very time-consuming method of inking, but it has been the technique that helped me re-create the look of old black-and-white photographs, which is something that I’ve always loved.
